DPOs interact with residents, stakeholders for continuous security

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Ag. CP Edgal Imohimi on Monday 18, 2017 has charged Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to reach out to their various communities for a more secured community.

The CP who addressed stakeholders at a security meeting with Area C residents at Surulere stated that a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) cannot be effective sitting in the office without moving around to supervise and interact with residents.

“Area commanders and Divisional Police Officers should no longer sit in their office and expect the people to come and visit them. They should visit the people, the mosques, churches, commercial motorcycle operators and other groups in their community to ask for their security challenges and help provide solution.

“Henceforth, invite your DPO for your meetings in the community, they must come. It is important that a Divisional Police Officer must periodically review the security in his community which cannot be done by sitting in the office.

Imohimi also commended the Area C Command and the residents for its present peacefulness and encouraged everyone to be vigilant for continuous safety.

He however condemned the act of cultism among the youths and urged parents/guardians to advise their children to shun cultism.

“Where were we when the youths were going into cultism? I enjoin you to utilise various available platforms to condemn cultism among our youths.

“They should be carrying their books, pen and their holy books as it is a crime to brandish arms and whoever does so risks being shot by the police.” the CP said.

The Area C Commander, ACP Wale Abass in his welcome address said that the police will deliberately seek and act on public opinion, information and perception with use of technology to rid the community of criminal elements.

Abass assured residents of adequate security attention  by the command as the command had continued to strengthen relationship with security stakeholders in its various communities.

“In this regard, the Area ‘C’ Command have continued to have meaningful engagement with PCRC, CDAs Vigilante Groups, Traditional rulers, business, political and youth leaders within the command.

In accordance with CP Imohimi’s thrust on intelligence policing, Area C Command has adopted proactive security measures which includes; foot and vehicular patrols, raids on black spots and criminal hideouts based on intelligence policing.”Abass explained.
