In the bid to rid Ikorodu of criminals, the Lagos State Police Command with LNSC operatives and the Ikorodu vigilante (Onyabo) group stormed Ikorodu today, Wednesday 12th July.
Wednesday’s raid came as a result of the security meeting last week in Ikorodu between the security agencies and major stake holders in the various communities around Ikorodu.
The raid which saw a lot of arrests was carried out today simultaneously at the Ita Elewa, Ladega market, Majidun,Ogolonto,Ota- ona, Odogunyan,Igbogbo areas of Ikorodu division.
The patrol team was headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Operations, Edgar Imohimi. Other senior officers that led various teams include, ACP Alamutu Abiodun, RRS Commander, DC Disu Olatunji.
Criminals took to their heels today when security operatives stormed the Ita Elewa axis, but were easily rounded off.
Over 30 suspected criminals were apprehended at the Ita Elewa axis. Fleeing commercial motorcyclists apprehended were found with huge quantity of cannabis.
Some of the suspects also have tattoos inscribed all over their bodies which gave them away as cult members.
Suspects that claimed to be staffers of companies but who couldn’t identify themselves were also arrested.
Also a community leader who has been on the police raider was arrested with other five suspects allegedly involved with badoo cult group.
Earlier, the Commissioner of Police while briefing officers on the Ikorodu operations, explained that the delay in the June salary payment is due to the changing of accounts but assured that they will soon start receiving alerts from their salary accounts because the salaries were already paid into the Central Bank and now being processed.
Assuring the general public of adequate security in Lagos area, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni said, “There shall be no breathing space for criminals in Ikorodu till the town is back to its normal peaceful state.”
