Customs Chief Pledges Improved Welfare With Housing Scheme

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, reaffirmed his dedication to enhancing the welfare of Customs personnel nationwide through housing initiatives.

Speaking on Thursday, March 7, 2024, in Kaduna during the launch of the NCS housing scheme at Gidan Iyali Estate, Millennium City, Kaduna, the CGC emphasized ongoing efforts to provide shelters for officers and men of the service.

“This ceremony marks the beginning, not the conclusion, of our plans,” stated the Comptroller-General, highlighting forthcoming housing projects in Kano, Asaba, Yola, Abuja, Enugu, and Uyo. The nationwide initiative aims to offer accessible and affordable housing options to Nigeria Customs Service personnel.

Recalling a similar project inaugurated on December 18, 2023, in Ibadan, which targeted serving officers and men, the CGC stressed the necessity of providing suitable housing for retired personnel to facilitate a smooth transition into post-service life. The initiative, endorsed as part of President Tinubu’s commitment to affordable housing, received praise from Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna state for its potential impact.

Addressing Customs officers, the CGC encouraged continued interest in the housing projects, revealing plans to streamline payment processes through collaboration with Cooperative Mortgage Bank and leveraging service ICT resources.

George Anih, Portfolio and Assets Manager of Family Homes, reiterated his firm’s dedication to offering affordable housing solutions, pledging to partner with the NCS to provide 5000 houses for its personnel.

Musa Abubakar, Managing Director of Cooperative Mortgage Bank, affirmed commitment to project completion, underscoring the bank’s role in ensuring the scheme’s success.
