COVID-19: Lagos Police Prosecutes Naira Marley, Manager For Violating Travel Ban

Instead of entertaining the audience with songs, Nigerian singer and songwriter, Azeez Adeshina Fashola, known as Naira Marley, on Thursday sat akinbo as he was drilled by Lagos State Special Offences (Mobile) Court, Oshodi as he faces trails for violating interstates travel ban.

The singer was arraigned by the operatives of Lagos State Police Command, from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba about 1530hrs for violating the cessation of movement and interstates travel order in Lagos during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Confirming the arraignment, the Lagos State Police Public Relations officer, SP Bala Elkana explained that he was arraigned alongside his Manager, Seyi Awouga (female) on one-count charge of breach of cessation of movement and interstates travel order made by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

An offence, he added is contrary to “Under Regulation 4(i) of the Lagos State Infectious Disease Emergency Prevention) Regulation No 2 of 2020 and committed an offence punishable under Section 58 Public Health Law, Ch. P16, Laws of Lagos State 2015.”

However, the two accused persons pleaded guilty to the charge and were awarded a fine of N100,000 each by the presiding Magistrate.

It would be recalled that on the 13th June, 2020 about 1400hrs, the suspect in total violation of the lockdown order, embarked on a non-essential travel from Lagos to Abuja and back to Lagos the same date, through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja for a musical concert in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
