The Road Safety Officers Wives Association (ROSOWA) has called on motorists and passengers to observe all Covid-19 protocols following the raising cases of the second wave of the pandemic in Nigeria.
ROSOWA on Saturday in Lagos distributed several flyers, reflective tapes, hand sanitizers and packs of sanitizers to drivers and passengers at the Mile 2 – Oshodi – Ketu Motor Park, and Ogba with a view to sensitizing them about the effects of the pandemic.
In a statement by the Sector Public Education Officer, FRSC Lagos Sector Command, Route Commander, Olabisi Sonusi
said that the campaign was led by ROSOWA Chairperson, Lagos State chapter, Mrs Ifeyinwa Ogungbemide, with her members of the association.
They visited motor parks in the state where the hand sanitizers, Retro-reflective tapes were distributed in accordance with the mandate of the President ROSOWA Nigeria Mrs Yemisi Oyeyemi.
Attributing the aim of the sensitization to the increasing rate of the virus in the country, said there was the need to ensure that passengers and motorists take responsibility in COVID-19 fight.
“The issue of road safety is a collective responsibility and the idea of visiting major parks was due to the large number of commuters who board commercial vehicles on daily basis.
“Today we distributed flyers, Retro-reflective tapes and hand sanitizers for drivers and their passengers. We told them about the pandemic and the need to adhere to laid down protocols,” Mrs Ogungbemide reiterated.
She admonished drivers to always ensure that their passengers use face masks, sanitize regularly, observe physical distancing and other protocols according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and also ensure that vehicles are loaded at 50% capacity.
The park Branch Organizing Secretary, Mr Ebenezer Adebayo promised that the park has taken measures to ensure that motorists and passengers adhered strictly to COVID-19 protocols, stressing that without face masks; passengers would be denied access to the parks to board any vehicle.
Mr Adebayo while appreciating ROSOWA and other FRSC personnel for the gesture, advised motorists to take COVID-19 seriously.
