The popular saying that a hungry man is an angry mob was fully exemplified on Tuesday afternoon at Marwa bus stop of Lekki, Lagos State, as youths in their number scrambled for food distributed as a relief package during the lockdown.
In a picture captured by our correspondent, people were seen filling up in a single line, bumping at one another, as they struggled to get a pack of food from a white donor.
Without observing the rules of social distancing or putting on any protective face mask against the Covid-19 pandemic, the youths could be seen rushing to the road as the unidentified white donor dished out boxes of cooked food from a popular food vendor in town.
The scene even turned to a melodrama when, like a flash of a lightning, the donor who was almost mobbed in the process, dashed into his SUV and zoomed off the scene after dishing out several packs.
Some of those that struggled for the handouts ran across the highway without bothering whether there were vehicles coming from both sides of the road.
If not for the lockdown that kept vehicles off the road, a lot of them would have been knocked down.
Who says people are not hungry as the lockdown continues? Why will the government not increase its stimulus response to the masses? Incidences like this might continue as some Lagosians lament the lockdown.
