Worshipers from RCCG camp among victims of Ojota crash

At least, seven persons lost their lives in two separate accidents that happened early morning Saturday  Ojota area of Lagos.

Nationalwire.com.ng gathered that five members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God lost their lives inside a Lagos commercial bus, with Reg. No. FST 944 XR at Ojota bus stop, Alausa axis.

It was gathered that the victims, who were members of the Sanitation Unit of the church were coming from Redemption Camp when two 20ft containers carrying logs fell on the bus and crushed five persons to death on the spot.

The General Manager of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Mr. Àdesina Jamiu, told our reporter that three others were rescued from the bus.
“The incident happened at about 4.45am. We got the information about eight minutes later and we immediately moved here. We activated all primary rescue respondents.
“One female and two males were rescued. Unfortunately, five others, a boy of about 10 years, a woman and three men were brought out dead after using the crane machine to lift the containers.

“The dead bodies were taken to Ikorodu General Hospital while, those alive were taken to Lagos State Emergency unit at old Toll Gate Alausa, Lagos.

The truck with Reg. No. AKD 663 XF and the bus would be taken to LASTMA yard at Oshodi,” Jamiu said.
The Lasema boss stated further that similar accident happened at the same place at Ojota, although, there was no casualty.
Jamiu blamed the accident on over loading and bad conditions of the truck, stressing that the two 20ft containers were too much for the truck to carry.
He said that the truck was without good tyres, which resulted to the accident.

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Fatal Owoseni said investigation into the accident had begun, stressing that they are on the trail of the truck driver who is at large.
A member of RCCG, Mr. Gabriel Ajayi said that the victims worked together with him at the camp to keep the Church clean, stressing that they left with the driver of the bus, simply identified as Pastor Charles.

It took the Police, LASEMA, civil defence, Road safety, RRS about five hours to remove the truck, containers from the road.

The second accident happened at about 7.15am at New Garage bus, Otoja, when a Lexus jeep crushed a commercial motorcyclist and his passenger to death and escaped.
As at 9.30am, the corpses were still lying on the road covered with wrappers.
The LASEMA GM said they were yet to get the report as at press time.
