Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina has said that the President would not address the nation today as against expectations of many Nigerians eagerly awaiting a national broadcast.
Yesterday, Nigerians got the information of a national broadcast on Monday as the President was expected to address the nation on the lockdown imposed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Adesina in a tweet via his Twitter account @FemAdesina, said,
“No presidential broadcast on COVID-19 updates today. None was planned. Rather, the Presidential Task Force will during its usual media briefings bring the nation up to speed on the next steps.”
The President has addressed Nigerians twice, first in March when the nation first preceded on a two weeks lockdown which was extended for another two weeks in a second broadcast.
However, some state governord had already eased the lockdown partially in their states to enable commercial activities pick up while spread of the disease is being checked.
According to Adesina, no broadcast was planned for today but rather, the Presidential Task Force will brief the nation in order to stay abreast of necessary information.
Also yesterday, the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced the state would soon open for business but business owners would have to comply with regulations in order to curtail the spread of the disease.
According to him, the state government would initiate a ‘Register-To-Open Initiative’ to enable businesses and worship centres know the new guidelines to govern their operations in order to keep the state safe from the pandemic.
He also said officials from the state government would go round to inspect the premises of such businesses and places of worship to be sure of readiness and compliance.
