BudgIT a non-profit and Civic Organization with the support of Ford Foundation has commenced a two day training programme for CSOs on creative communication and budget analysis in Lagos.
The training which began yesterday has in attendance journalists and participants from civil society organisations.
The aim of the workshop,according to BudgIT is for CSOs to creatively communicate the findings and insights extracted from the budget to the public.
The workshop is to train participants on how to apply technology to simplify the budget and matters of public spending for citizens with the primary aim of raising standard of transparency and accountability in government.
The training is also to simplify the budget, using info graphics and other tools for participants to have key knowledge on budget monitoring and tracking so they could lead the citizen’s participation exercises.
According to the Project Officer Research, Ayomide Faleye, the training is part of its project plans to train other budget-focused CSOs, including those who work in local communities on effective budget communication and the use of Tracka, all with community participation, to track government projects.
Participants in attendance include Connected Development,CODE, Network on Police Reform (NOPRIN), HEDEN,TEP Center and Basic Rights Watch.
