Be Good ambassadors, Deo Gratias Charges Students, Donates Education Materials In Kwara

In its bid to enhance the education of students in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, a nongovernmental organisation, Deo Gratias has distributed educational materials comprising mathematical sets and notebooks among students in selected secondary schools urging students to be good ambassadors of their schools.

The distribution took place at the Government Day Secondary School and Government High School, both in Adeta in Ilorin West Local Government Area of the state.

Executive Director of Deo Gratias, Margaret Innocent during the distribution advised the students to be of good behavour and be diligent in their studies which can make them successful members of the society in the near future.

“We are here today to sensitise you and encourage you to face your studies because when you are serious with your education, you are serious with your life and the society is better for it,” Innocent said, adding that, “Our organisation is making this donation to encourage you to do well in your studies and be of good behavior. When you are successful, the society is successful and we are committed to seeing you do well.”

Innocent, a broadcaster however added that, “Deo Gratias next time hopes to be able to distribute to more students in the area and not just some selected schools so that the opportunity could spread to more students.”

Responding to the gesture, Principal of the Government Day Secondary School, Adeta, Alhaji Issah Jetti appreciated the kind gesture and prayed the donour organization would be blessed enough to reach more students in the near future.

“I like to appreciate this kind gesture. I pray for divine blessing for the organisation so that more students possibly would be reached next time so that their studies can also be enhanced,” he said.

The Guardian and Counseling teacher at the Government High School, who represented the school’s Principal, Mrs. Suleiman Ganiyat Titilayo, also appreciated Deo Gratias while receiving the materials.

Commending the NGO for the initiative, she said the school authority and students appreciate the generosity of the organisation and do not take it for granted.

Founded as Ilorin College, Ilorin (ICI) at the Gbagba city gate Oke Adeta, Ilorin in 1968 by Hon. A.G.F. AbdulGaniyu Folorunso Rasak (SAN) who is the first lawyer in the pre-independence northern Nigeria, the Government Day Secondary School has produced notable citizens who have excelled in their fields of endeavours.

Dr. Shehu Jimoh was the pioneering principal of the college that has produced great people including Senator (Dr.) Isiaka Adebayo Saliman, Alhaji Engineer Amori Yahaya, Alhaji Umaru Saka Olumoh among other greats.
