A group of Bayelsans under the aegis of Bayelsa State Graduate has thrown their weight behind the State Governor, Henry Serike Dickson, decision to prosecute over 7000 allegedly wage thieves.
Speaking through their leader in Yenagoa, Mr. Eddy Soko, he stated that the group supported the effort of the state government so as to sanitize the civil service system in the state.
According to Banner News, he further said that the support is based on the fact that the state have suffered so much from perpetrator of payroll fraud.
In his words” how can people who are working in some federal government institution and are receiving salaries, and also drawing salaries every month from the state civil service or how do we continue to keep quiet when people who have officially attained the retirement age but have refused to leave rather they swear in affidavit and change their date of birth.
“This is clearly unfair to us and to the state in general. So it has become important for us to lend our support to the government, if the civil servant is sanitize, there will be space for the teeming youths in Bayelsa in the civil service and other government agencies to be gainfully employed..
The group noted that “We are pained that some persons are kicking against the noble move by the government especially the national union of local government employees. Let us inform them that we will resist any attempt by them to shut down the state. They should be ready to face us because we are talking about our future here”, they added.
