The leadership of the Bayelsa state chapter of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria,RTEAN has said the proliferation of loading points(motor parks),belonging to them and her sister unions in the state is not a sign that they are at loggerheads.
The state’s RTEAN Secretary,Comrade Anengimo Jonah stated this in Yenagoa yesterday during an interview with Newsmen against the backdrop of perceived fracas between them and her sister transportation unions in the state.
It would be recalled that lately, their have been no fewer than twenty loading points opened by transportation unions across the state.
Speaking to Newsmen comrade Jonah reiterated their commitments in ensuring peace and amicable resolution of any lingering disenchantment between RTEAN and any other transport union, noting that the surest way of curbing the excesses of proliferation of loading points is the identification and documentation of operational boundaries between them and other sister union.
Jonah stressed the importance of peace in promoting not only the transport sector development,but also in creating jobs for Bayelsans,maintaining that the large number of motor parks owned and operated by the various unions have provided employment for people, both adhoc and sustainable opportunities.
He called on sister commuter Unions to toe the part of harmony,emphasising that RTEAN was a pace setter in the state’s transportation sector.
“Today,our major loading point is at the Tombia roundabout. Even though we’ve subsidiary parks across the state”,Jonah said.
The RTEAN scribe hinted that to forestall further bickering between them and any other union, a committee has been setup with a view to resolving issues affecting the peaceful operations of transportation unions.
Meanwhile, all attempts at hearing from other sister unions of the RTEAN on the alleged fierce competition amongst the transportation unions in the state yielded no result before press time.
