Leadership of the Bayelsa State Cattle Dealers and Rearers Assoction(BCDRA), has promised to forge a united front for the growth of the body in the state.
Newly elected Chairman of the BCDRA, Alhaji Ali Maiwada made the pledge during a chat with newsmen in Yenagoa, the State capital today.
He said the union under his watch would consolidate on the achievements of the immediate past leadership to ensure unity and love amongst its members and customers.
Maiwada commended members of the association for finding him worthy to be elected Chairman, saying the BCDRA is an important subsector of the state’s economy and nutrition.
The new BCDRA helmsman until his recent election was the Secretary of the association in the state and former appointee of the State Governor, Senator Douye Diri.
He said: “I’ve been in this state for years now. I was the Secretary of the Bayelsa State Cattle Dealers and Rearers Association(BCDRA) for many years. During my time as Secretary, the association worked hard to ensure peaceful coexistence for the smooth running of our businesses, hence, former governor of the State, Seriake Dickson gave us the Bayelsa Palm (vegetable oil plantation) as a ranch.
“Since getting Bayelsa Palm as our market, we’ve been doing our business peacefully and therefore enabling consistent consumption of cow meat in the state. I want to assure you that we’ll continue to maintain peace and order in the ranch. Our association is growing and business is also growing rapidly.
“Before now we only got between 3-5 trailers of cattle coming to do their business here, but due to the peace we enjoy amongst ourselves as an association, today we’ve between 10-15 trailers of cattle coming to the ranch on weekly basis for business. This is a sign that we’re making progress”.
Also speaking, outgone Chairman of the BCDRA, Alhaji Bello Muhammadu enjoined members to work in unity with the new executives for continued peace and progress, describing the new Chairman as a committed, loyal and detribalized leader who members can trust.
Muhammadu said Maiwada has proved his leadership mettle, hence his election as new Chairman of the association with landslide victory.
He said: “Ali Maiwada is a nice man. He’ll never quarrel nor fight any member. He respects himself and everybody. He’s not a tribalist. I know and believe he will build on what we achieved together as Chairman and Secretary during my tenure as Chairman”.
