The Bayelsa state House of Assembly Friday approved a total of N1,741,950,000 billion loan sought by the state judiciary.
In a letter sent to the state Assembly by the state Judiciary, dated 6th December,2019 which was read on plenary the state Judiciary said in consonance with the constitutional independence of the Judiciary as an arm of Government it seeks for the loan to purchase vehicles for Judges,Magistrates and some other senior Judicial staffs of the state Judiciary as well as foot other bills.
Leading the debate,leader protempore appointed for the sitting and member representing Nembe constituency 1, Honourable Ebi Ben-Ololo said in line with the financial autonomy given to the Judiciary that the House do back the Judiciary to get the loan to enable it operate without impediments to its functions.
Ben-Ololo discribed the Judiciary as the hope of the common man,saying the effectiveness of Judges and other Judicial employees like every other employee is tied to working incentives.
Contributing to the debate,immediate past deputy leader and member representing Ogbia constituency 1, Honourable Mitema Obordor restated that it is not out of place for the Judiciary to seek for the approval of the loan following the financial autonomy granted it.
Obordor mentioned that with the Judiciary clearly stating the reason and how it intends to use the loan it seeks to take that the House give it the support needed to assess it.
“The Judiciary is the hope of the command man,but when you deny them of the periphenelia attached to their offices they resort to bribe taking,thereby abusing there offices, so to avert that I think Mr Speaker,Honourable colleagues I pray this House to grant the Judiciary the approval.Obordor said.
In another development, the Bayelsa state Legislature has also approved the renegotiation and restructuring of loans taken by the state Government.
Governor Seriake Dickson in letter to the state Assembly Friday is seeking for the backing of the Lawmakers to enable Government renegotiate and restructure loans acquired by the state.
Similarly the State House of Assembly Friday also gave backing to the restructuring of the 2019 appropriation law of the state.
You would recall that Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa state Friday in two separate letters to the State Assembly has sought the leave of the Lawmakers to enable Government restructure and renegotiate loans taken by the state as well as restructuring the 2019 Budget.
