Atiku Visits PDP Leaders, Says he is ready to Make Nigeria Work Again
Former Vice President of Nigeria Alhaji Atiku Abubakar on Friday paid a visit to the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at its National Secretariat (Wadata Plaza) in Abuja, promising to make Nigeria work again if he is elected president in 2019.
Atiku used the opportunity to inform the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party that he wished to run for the exalted office of the President under the party in 2019.
“I wish to formally put the party on notice of my intention to present myself as an aspirant for the exalted office of the president of Nigeria under the PDP.
“You can count on me to support and do my obligations to the PDP and indeed to the country.
“I commend you for the free, fair and transparent primaries in Ekiti State. I believe if we sustain this, PDP will do exploits with this precedents you have set,” he said.
The ex-vice president stated further that the PDP will regain its preeminence, and congratulated the members of the NWC as managers of the party, saying that their performance is indicative of how Nigerians see the party.
While commending the leadership of the party,  Atiku  said that the essence of his visit was to commend the leaders of the party for the successful convention that produced the NWC.
He stated that the visit was to intimate and underscore his desire to run for the presidency in 2019, while promising his support for and commitment to the PDP whether he becomes the presidential aspirant or not.
In his response,  the National Chairman of the PDP,  Hon. Uche Secondus said “We have vowed to return the PDP to the original vision of our founding father.
“We have total commitment to run a free fair and transparent party.
“We have vowed to return the PDP to the original vision of our founding father.
“We have total commitment to run a free fair and transparent party.”
Secondus added that the state chairmen and zonal chairmen of the party have been given the wherewithal to run the party at the levels with minimum interference
He stressed that the PDP would conduct all election primaries with the utmost fear of God, while stressing that the party could not allow Nigeria to collapse
According to him,  “We are bold to say that if the APC-controlled Federal Government rigs elections in Ekiti State, the country will implode and we pray God that is not allowed to happen
“A day will come when everyone will be held accountable and as such I enjoin all operators at all levels of Government to act with utmost sense of balance.
“The campaigns is not at the headquarters. It is at the wards, local governments and at the states. I encourage you and indeed all aspirants to go to the field.”
Atiku was introduced to the NWC as the major financier of the party from inception.
The NWC was informed that “Atiku single handedly paid for and handed over Wadata Plaza to PDP, and he is detribalised.
“That notwithstanding the whistle blowing policy of FG, no one has blown the whistle on him for any acts of corruption even several years after leaving office.
“He is a successful entrepreneur that has created and continues to create much-needed jobs for Nigerians.
“He is experienced, highly skilled and wired to help Nigeria out of the current abyss it has found itself in on account of the broken governance of APC. The PDP needs a leader like AA who knows the party inside and outside.
