The Presidential Flagbearer on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 general elections in the country, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has announced the appointment of the Kebbi State Governor, Senator Atiku Bagudu as Chairman of a strategic committee on the roadmap to revive agriculture in Nigeria in the next political dispensation in the country if he is voted into power as the elected civilian president next year.
Tinubu announced the appointment on Monday during a town hall and agro-business submit for Northern Nigeria at the Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi International Conference Centre in Minna, the Niger State capital.
Tinubu explained that Governor Bagudu committee has been mandated to produce a policy document that would form priority in the total reformation of agriculture in the APC-led administration if he was elected presidentb in 2023.
He thereby assured farmers of necessary protection of farm produce in the market, saying, that “that is why I promise you that commodity exchange will start immediately you elect me as President in 2023”.
He however enjoined the farmers to cast their votes for APC, hilighting that the future was assured “and we will stop destroying our export potentials”.
According to him, “agriculture is the hope and prosperity of farmers and Nigerian economy hence the need to prioritized the sector for easy access to agric facilities and improve the country Gross Domestic Product (GDP)”.
In a welcome address at the occasion, the State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello , explained that Niger state government has continued to support the development of agriculture in the areas of crops, livestock and fisheries production.
He noted that his administration has reactivated 19 moribund irrigation schemes in the state in the last seven years and in addition to the rehabilitation of over 300km rural access roads through the implementation of the Rural Access and Mobility Project (RAMP II) programme.
The governor stated further that the state has attracted five International Investors for the production diary and other associated livestock products stressing that over 1,300 hectares of pasture plots have been fully developed and basic facilities provided in them.
The event was also attended by the national chairman of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, Director General of the presidential campaign council, who doubles as the Governor of Plateau State, Hon. Simon Lalong, Kebbi state Governor, Senator Atiku Bagudu and his Jigawa State counterpart, Governor Badaru including a former Minister of the Interior,Lt.Gen. Abdurahaman Dabazau as well as a former Governorship aspirant on the platform of the APC in Niger State,Alhaji Idris Malagi, the State Governorship candidate on the platform of APC,Hon. Mohammed Umaru Bago and his running mate in the 3023 Governorship election in the next year’s general elections among among others .
