The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Maj Gen Olubunmi Irefin has distributed exercise books to two Schools at Tarkwa Bay community in Victoria Island.
There was also Medical outreach where people were given free medical treatment with free drugs and other sundry treatments.
It was learnt that the exercise which is part of the activities of Operation Crocodile Smile IV was simultaneously carried out in Lagos and Ogun states respectively.
Explaining what informed the exercise, the GOC noted that the medical raphsody was aimed at fostering civil-military relations, gaining people’s trust in security agencies as well as saying thank you to the community as a good host.
Col Oni of the medical corps also explained that since they started the exercise last Tuesday, hundreds of people, including adults and children have been treated with different ailments. In addition, “test were conducted on some patients, drugs administered and eyes glasses distributed to the deserving ones.
Expressing satisfaction with the quality of treatment received from the medical team, a septugenarian, Mrs Mary said she has been suffering from Arthritis for several years, making it difficult for her to walk properly.
“I was treated and given drugs. They told me how to use those drugs and what to eat and not to. I am very thankful to God and prayed that God would sustain and keep them. This is a huge relieve to me especially as we don’t have good hospital here.”
At the Community Secondary School, the Director of Education, Mr Oluwasola Adedeji gave kudos to the army for their generosity adding that since the army came to their community, the quality of security has improved.
“Few weeks ago, some hoodlums attacked the students hence we are appealing to the government to help us fence the school which has made us very vulnerable to attack.
Also, at the Epiphany Anglican Primary School, Abagbo, with students population of 366 with only four teachers, the Headmaster Tajudeem Olabisi said the donation of text books to the children would go a long at improving children’s learning process.
Making his remarks, Gen Irefin added that “this is a little token from us and we would continue to support you till the end of this exercise in December.
The students were full of joy for the donation of the notebooks.
