Amnesty Office Withdraws Funding Scholarship For Two Students

Management of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), says it has withdrawn from funding Scholarships of two of its students.

National Wire sources revealed that the affected students include, Messrs Patrick Ipidei and Papems Peter Etolor.

According to the Presidential Amnesty Programme, it has since written letters communicating the Programme’s decision on withdrawal of the scholarships funding to the said students’ respective institutions of learning.

A statement made available to Newsmen by the Special Assistant on Media to the Interim Administrator of PAP, Mr. Freston Akpor said Mr. Ipidei and Etolor had over time cultivated the habit of spreading falsehood and making spurious allegations against the management of the programme, and its Interim Administrator, Maj-Gen. Barry Ndiomu (rtd).

The statement added that the duo and their sponsors are instigating other scholarship students and ex-agitators under the PAP to carry out an unnecessary public protest to embarrass PAP’s management.

The statement noted that a sponsored public protest is being planned because of the spiteful rumour that the management of the PAP has stopped the ongoing Amnesty scholarship scheme.

The statement read in parts: “There is no iota of truth in the rumour, it’s worthy to note that the scholarship scheme, just like the contract awards were suspended because of an ongoing auditing exercise and will commence immediately the process is concluded.

The statement recalled that only last week, Ipidei and his team met a senior official of the PAP and the report of that meeting is receiving the needed attention and expressed concern over his intensified attack against the management of PAP.

“Because of their misconduct, the management of PAP has withdrawn the scholarship of Patrick Ipidei and Papems Peter Etolor with immediate effect,” the statement added.

The statement from the Amnesty office further warned that similar fate would befall any recalcitrant student that decides to go against the code of conduct relating to the sponsorship of their scholarship programme and urged students and ex-agitators to use the right channels to register whatever grievances or concerns they may have.

This was just as the media aide to Interim Administrator of PAP also reaffirmed the commitment of the management of the programme towards ensuring best practices in the delivery of its mandate, saying it would not be distracted in any way by enemies of progress and agents of destabilization.
