The Okutukutu and Etegwe communities of the Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa state have described as ‘falsehood’ and ‘blatant lies’ allegations of murder and assaults leveled against them by neighbouring Opolo community paramount ruler, HRH Eniya Moneyman Nengibo.
Paramount ruler of Okutukutu community, HRH Franklyn Akintola stated this at the weekend in Yenagoa the state capital during a press briefing held as part of effort to set the records straight over the neighbouring communities recent clashes.
Nation Wire gathered that the Opolo community’s paramount ruler has in a recent publication alleged that the Okutukutu and Etegwe communities murdered one of their indigene during a recent inter-communical clashes and has since refused to disclosed the identities of the murderers to security agencies for arrest and prosection.
HRH Franklyn described the allegations by the Opolo monarch against the two communities as misleading and embarrassing, noting that it was the latter community which has been attacking and maiming unsuspecting members of the two communities on regular basis.
He described the clashes as unwarranted and avoidable, saying however that the recurring clashes from inception have been fermented by the Opolo community.
He said: “The Opolo community is our tenant. They came from Ologoama, a community somewhere between Nembe and Ogbia LGA of Bayelsa state and we gave them land.
“From time immemorial when we allotted parts of our land to them, they’ve been encroaching on other parts of our land that’s not part of where we gave them. Because of their political hegemony they want to by every means lord over us.
“The Opolo paramount ruler and people lied and they’ve continued to tell lies against my community, Okutukutu and Etegwe. Ask them why they destroyed the drone evidence which monitored what really happened or caused that crisis.
“Infact someone anonymous from Opolo community called me during the crisis and apologize to me, saying the crisis wasn’t caused by the Okutukutu/Etegwe communities”.
