The 81 Division, Nigerian Army, has said that a probe panel has been launched on an alleged disciplinary incident involving a student of the Command Secondary School, Ipaja, Lagos.
According to a statement on Thursday, 5th March, 2026, by the spokesperson of the 81 Division, Nigerian Army, Lt Col Musa Yahaya noted that a video currently circulating on social media concerning the administering of corrective disciplinary action to a female student of Command Secondary School, Ipaja, Lagos, has generated public concern, hence the Division is currently investigating the matter.
He assured parents, guardians and members of the public that the matter is taken seriously by the army authorities.
He observed that a preliminary findings indicated that the incident occurred on 26th February, 2026 during afternoon lessons when the Field Officer of the Week conducted a routine classroom inspection.
The inspection was aimed at ensuring that both staff and students were present in their classes, properly dressed and maintaining order in line with established school regulations.
However, during the inspection, some students were observed to be improperly dressed and the slippers they were wearing were confiscated in accordance with the school’s disciplinary guidelines.
In the course of the exercise, a Senior Secondary School Three (SS 3) student of Rhino House was discovered to be wearing sports attire without footwear. When questioned by the inspecting officer, the student reportedly stated that her footwear had been seized by a soldier.
However, further inquiries later revealed that the student had earlier handed over her canvas shoes to a classmate prior to the inspection. Additional findings from the preliminary inquiry also indicated that the student made a caricature of the inspecting officer in the presence of other students in the class.
The 81 Division Nigerian Army expresses concern over the development and regrets any distress the incident may have caused the student, her family and members of the public.
The welfare, safety and dignity of students in all Command schools remain a priority and are treated with utmost seriousness.
Accordingly, the officer involved is currently being investigated while a more comprehensive review of the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing to ensure that all disciplinary measures within Command schools are carried out responsibly and in line with established standards.
The Division, therefore, reassure the public that the outcome of the ongoing investigation will guide any further administrative actions considered necessary to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
