Immediate past Minister of state for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva have for the second time in less than eight years secured the candidacy ticket of his party, the All Progressives Congress at the recent governorship primaries held in Bayelsa state.
National Wire source reports that the former Minister who was also Governor of the state between 2007-2012 polled 52,061 to defeat other contenders, including the 2019 Governor-elect of the state, Chief David Lyon.
The results of the primaries were declared at the APC state Secretariat in Yenagoa, capital of Bayelsa state by chairman of the APC election committee for the state, Maj-Gen. A T. Jibrin (rtd) in which he thanked party faithful for their peaceful disposition during the exercise.
Meanwhile, in his acceptance speech, Sylva who was represented by the member representing Brass/Nembe Federal Constituency of the state, Hon. Israel Sunny-Goli gave the assurances that the party would continue to work together to win the governorship election slated for November 11th, 2023.
Sylva said: “Lets us work together as a family to win the Bayelsa state governorship election on November 11th,2023”.
Those who contested with the former Minister include, Joshua Maciver who scored 2,078, Barr. Festus Daumiebi 557, Prof.Ongoebi Maureen Etebu, 1,277 while chief David Lyon polled 1,584, just as Mrs Isikima Johnson garnered 584, respectively.
The primaries election committee of the party also gave the total number of votes cast in the exercise as 58,141.
The Independent national electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed the governorship polls for Bayelsa, Kogi and Imo states for November 11th, 2023.
