About 600 persons have so far benefited from the free eye screenings and treatments by a Non Governmental Organisation( NGO) under the auspicies of Alhaji Abdulkadir Shehu Nafuntua Educational and Health foundation in Minna, Niger state capital .
The Flagged off of the exercise was done on Tuesday and rounded up on Wednesday while the founder of the NGO, Alhaji Abdulkadri Nafuntua, a Chieftain of the state’s chapter of the All Progressive Congress( APC) said the gesture was part of his efforts at complimenting Niger state government’s drive to assist the poor.
Alhaji Nafuntua explained that it was also aimed at reducinlng the hardship faced by less privileged members of society towards bringing soccur and relief to them.
According to him, the foundation plans to organise similar free eye treatment in both the Niger South and Niger East Senatorial Districts of the state shortly after the one conducted in Minna and it’s environs to give some Nigerlites with eye related ailments a sense of belonging.
Alhaji Abdulkadir S.Nafuntua who doubles as a Member of the Niger Universal Basic Education Board( SUBEB) also appealed to Corporate organisations and Well Meaning individuals which includes political office holders to support the less privileged persons in the society.
Meanwhile, a former Deputy Director National Eye Centre Kaduna, in Kaduna state, Dr. Haruna Idris Usman has said that he and his team of Medical personnels were in the state on the auspices of Alhaji Abdulkadri Shehu Nafuntua Educational and Health Foundation to carry out the free eye screening and treatments and were expected to spend two days in Minna for the exercise that promise to be a success.
Also, one of the beneficiaries and a 60- year old woman, Malama Hadiza Yau, thanked the organisers of the free eye screenings and treatment for the gesture and called on other individuals and Corporate citizens to emulate similar initiate.
