A 16-Year-Old Girl, Awolowo, Arrested For Kidnapping …As Victims Rescued

The Imo State Police Command has smashed a notorious kidnapping syndicate including a 16-year-old Jenifer Awolowo for terrorising the state.

Confirming the arrest of the six notorious kidnappers, the spokesperson, Imo State Police Command, CSP Michael Abattam
said on the 3rd July, 2021 about 0430 hours, one Cornelia Oluebube, a female of Amakohia in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, was kidnapped by unknown gun men and taken to an unknown destination.

It was further disclosed that the Command’s Tactical teams, on receipt swung into action based on technical intelligence which led them to Delta State where the suspects were arrested.

Terry’s Mez, 31 years old from Aguleri in Anambra State, Willine Ebefal, 21 years old from Ogbokuno in Burutu LGA of Delta State, and Obasanjo Kimakia, 20 years old from Tamime in Burutu LGA of Delta State.

On interrogation, the three suspects who volunteered useful information took the Tactical teams to Delta State on the 19th July, 2021 about 1130 hours for the rescue of the kidnapped victims.

After diligent gathering of intelligence and planning, stormed the hideout of the Kidnapper’s Den in Tebegbe Water Side in Delta State, and arrested Augustine Irishaye, 21 years old, Jenifer Awolowo, 16 years old female, and Eyemgblausi Chugbwugburefa, 17 years old, all of Tibegbe in Burutu LGA of Delta State.

The victim, Cornelia Oluebube, a female, who was kidnapped in Owerri was rescued unhurt.

However, while the Tactical teams were escorting the suspects out of their hideout, one of the suspects, Terry Mez, took to his heels and was shot on the leg to prevent him from escaping from lawful custody.

On arrival back to the Command, the escaping suspect was taken to the Nigeria Police Hospital Amakohia, Owerri Imo State while, the victim was formally reunited with her parents by the Commissioner of Police.

The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Abutu Yaro, commended the efforts and gallant display by the command’s tactical teams in the rescue of the kidnap victim, reiterating that the unwavering commitment of the command to neutralise all criminal gangs in the state would be sustained.
