Erinja Youths Celebrate 22nd IGP, Egbetokun as He Bows Out

…says Egbetokun is the first Inspector General of Police from Ogun State

A youth oriented group in Ogun State, the Erinja Elite Youth Group has congratulated the outgoing Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, as he bows out as Nigeria’s 22nd Inspector-General of Police.

In a statement issued on behalf of the people of Erinja-Orile in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, the group described his exit from office on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, as the end of a remarkable era in the history of the Nigeria Police Force.

The statement said further that, Dr. Egbetokun’s tenure brought pride to Erinja, Ogun State, and the entire Yewa people. It noted that the former police Chief made history as the first Inspector-General of Police of Ogun State descent, calling the milestone a significant achievement for the community.

The youth group also conveyed the goodwill of the Elerinja of Erinja, HRM Oba Ebenezer Alani Egunjobi (FCA), and commended the former police boss for what it described as his gallant service to the nation.

According to the statement, Egbetokun’s leadership of the Nigeria Police Force was marked by a strong commitment to institutional reform, professionalism and intelligence-driven policing. The group highlighted his efforts to strengthen intelligence structures within the Force, expand tactical capacity and boost manpower through large-scale recruitment.

It further noted that his administration prioritised officer welfare and modernised investigative processes, including the expansion of digital policing frameworks aimed at improving efficiency and responsiveness in law enforcement.

The Erinja Elite Youth Group stated that his tenure came at a time of complex national security challenges, yet he remained focused on reforming and repositioning the police institution. It praised his advocacy for improved training standards, better funding mechanisms and stronger institutional accountability, saying these measures contributed to ongoing reforms within the Force.

The group also referenced earlier commendation from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who reportedly described Egbetokun’s tenure as reflecting dedication to strengthening internal security and institutional reforms within the Nigeria Police Force.

Describing him as a shining example to the younger generation, the youth group said Dr. Egbetokun’s career demonstrates that dedication, discipline and integrity can lead to the highest levels of national service. It added that his achievements have brought honour to Erinja and Yewa and would continue to inspire young people from the area to pursue excellence in public service and leadership.

While saluting his contributions to policing and national development, the group expressed confidence that the institutional foundations laid during his tenure would continue to shape the future of policing in Nigeria.
