Thousands of commuters Tuesday morning have been stranded along the ever busy Lagos – Ibadan highway, Newsscreenng can authoritatively report.
The traffic gridlock which has wasted several man hours began early hours due to an accident involving a trailer, according to a commuter.
As a result, both sides of the highway has been on a standstill as early as 7:00am. Commercial bus drivers and commercial motorcyclists have hiked their fares above 100% and commuters have resulted to walking long distances to their destinations.
From Mowe to Berger bus stop on bike now costs between N500 and N800 while bus drivers charge between N300 and N500 for same distance which was at N100 before the gridlock.
Commuters entering Lagos by night busses are expected to waste the time earlier gained as a result of the unexpected traffic situation.
Lagos – Ibadan express way is one of the busiest highways in the West African sub-region which had wasted lives and productive hours.
Subsequent governments have tried to proffer solutions over time, which solutions are yet to yield lasting result.
