Nestlé Nigeria has clarified that its infant formula products sold in the country are not part of the voluntary recall announced in some other countries.
According to the company, all Nestlé infant formula products marketed and officially registered in Nigeria with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) remain safe for consumption.
Specifically, Nestlé Nigeria confirmed that the following product lines are unaffected, SMA Gold: SMA Gold 1, SMA Gold 2, and SMA Gold 3
Also, NAN Optipro: NAN Optipro 1, NAN Optipro 2, and NAN Optipro 3
The company emphasized that the safety and quality of its products, as well as the health and well-being of infants, are its top priorities.
Nestlé Nigeria encouraged parents and caregivers to consult official sources or contact the company directly if they have any questions or concerns regarding the safety of infant formula.
In a global move, Nestlé has expanded a recall of certain infant formula batches due to potential contamination with a toxin that can cause nausea and vomiting.
At least 37 countries have issued health warnings, including most European states, Australia, Brazil, China, Mexico, and South Africa.
However, NAFDAC has yet to issue a public advisory or official reaction in Nigeria.
