A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholder in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State, Joseph Alasan, has publicly rejected a bag of rice sent to him as a Christmas gift by Senator Peter Ndalikali Jiya, who represents Niger South Senatorial District.
In a strongly worded disclaimer notice circulating widely, Alasan explained that he turned down the gesture to protest what he described as the senator’s “underwhelming performance” in office.
He said the gift was an attempt to “cover up” shortcomings and potentially sway stakeholders ahead of future political ambitions—something he said would insult the people of Mokwa and the broader Niger South zone.
“I base my political support on track records and the potential to serve the public,” Alasan wrote. “When individuals fail to meet those expectations, I immediately cut ties with them. My interest in politics is primarily about serving the people, not personal benefits,” he added.
While thanking the senator for the thought, Alasan firmly rejected the rice and wished him and his family a Merry Christmas.
He emphasised that the public statement was necessary “to avoid any ambiguity or misinformation” about his stance.
