The Chairman of the Board of Trustee of the West Africa Theological Seminary (WATS), Ipaja, Lagos, Rt. Rev. Prof. Dapo Asaju, is set to deliver the Convocation Lecture at the institution’s 34th and 35th Combined Convocation Ceremony scheduled for Saturday, 29th November 2025.
The event, which will take place at the seminary campus, is expected to draw distinguished guests, families, friends, clergy, and key stakeholders in theological education.
According to a statement signed by Isaac Daramola of the WATS Communication Desk, the ceremony will commence at 10:00 a.m. and will celebrate the academic accomplishments of graduands across multiple departments.
Degrees to be conferred include the Bachelor of Arts (BA), Master of Arts (MA), and Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) programs. The institution emphasised that the convocation highlights its mission to produce spiritually sound, academically trained, and mission-oriented Christian leaders capable of impacting both the Church and society.
A major highlight of this year’s ceremony will be the conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degrees and Special Recognition Awards on eminent religious leaders and notable personalities who have made outstanding contributions to the work of God and humanity.
WATS explained that these awards reflect its commitment to honouring excellence, strengthening leadership values, and inspiring future ministers of the gospel.
The statement further noted that Asaju’s lecture would address contemporary challenges confronting the global Church, theological education, and ministerial practice. His presentation is expected to equip graduands with fresh insight as they step into new ministerial responsibilities.
The theologian is also the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Ilesa, Osun State, and a renowned scholar.
Founder of the seminary, Prof. Gary Maxey, along with the Provost, Dr. Olufemi Emmanuel, and other members of the management team, will lead the WATS community in receiving guests and dignitaries.
The seminary has however extended an open invitation to Christians, partners, alumni, and well-wishers to participate in what it described as a joyful and spiritually enriching celebration of academic achievement, excellence, and divine purpose.
