Sad as Segun Awolowo Dies at 62

Former Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Mr. Olusegun Awolowo is dead.

Awolowo, a lawyer and grandson of the late Premier of the Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, was an alumnus of the Ogun State University, Ago Iwoye.

His death was announced by the Awolowo family on Thursday.

The statement reads in part, “With extreme heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather- Olusegun Awolowo.”

Born on 27 September 1963, his father was Segun Awolowo, a Barrister and the late son of Chief Awolowo.

He led the Nigerian Export Promotion Council from 2013 to 2021 serving two terms overseeing several initiatives aimed at boosting Nigeria’s non-oil exports and strengthening the country’s global trade presence.

Until his death, he was the President of the National Trade Promotion Organisations (TPOs) from ECOWAS member states. He was also the Secretary of African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA).

He is survived by his aged mother and entire Awolowo family.
