The Men and Women in Ecclesiastical Leadership Alliance (MEWELA) Global, a non-faith biased movement, has pushed for intense emancipation of women, their realisation/fulfilment of purpose alongside soul winning.
The group otherwise known as God’s endtime and family movement, which started globally and nationally in 2018 and 2023 respectively, stressed the place of women in family and nation building, making reference to women being excellent administrators as a significant number of banks and other corporate organisations in Nigeria and countries are headed by women.
The group at a press briefing after its successful women’s international conference at the Abundant Life Gospel Church, Agege Lagos, also hinted the need to help youth discover and maximise their potential.
The Women’s conference precedes the Youth Convention and Ministers’ Conference holding October 29 to 30 and crusade on October 31 in collaboration with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Lagos State Chapter, with the theme ‘God’s Army Without Walls’.
Addressing the press, Convener/International President, MEWELA Global, Archbishop Olufunmilayo Esther Olufemi and the former Lagos Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) who also is the MEWELA National President, Apostle Enyinannya Okwuonu; in the company of the host, Rev. Janet Onaolapo, Vice Chairperson of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) Lagos State Chapter and other executives, said the main vision of the movement was to unite Christians and for soul winning.
They made it known that in as much the movement was centred on Christ, membership is not restricted to Christians nor ministers of the gospel, but open to all across faiths, as part of its soul winning mandate, empowerment of women, advancement of God’s kingdom and breaking of denominational/faith centric walls.
Speaking about her passion for humanitarian services, even as a member of Rotary Club; Olufemi stated: “MEWELA is a family that wants to work together to see the kingdom of God advance, and we believe in the holistic approach of the gospel that is ministering to the spirit, souls, and the bodies of people. That was what Jesus did. That was the template Jesus gave us.
“So we minister to the spirit, to the soul, and to the body. And that’s why when we gather, we make sure we reach out to the less privileged, to the widows, to the single mothers, to the disabled, and the orphans among us, just to extend the love and the peace of Christ to them as we bring them the gospel. This is what MEWELA is all about,” she added.
“We embrace the great commission, ‘go ye’, as the core of what we are doing. So Mewela is not just a Nigerian-based programme, I mean family movement. We are going to the ends of the earth as the Lord will give us the grace to go out for Him, to impact souls, and bring more souls into the kingdom.”
Okwuonu, who pledged unwavering support for women, hinted that men were not left out in the agenda as MEWELA has plans in the pipeline for them.
He stated, “It is important that we encourage women…God is doing a mighty work around the world today using women. I’m very much interested and passionate about women’s ministry because God spoke to me precisely in 1999, 24 December, that He’s changing the leadership structure of the world.
“…I tell you, women are the best administrators. You know, that’s why we have to support MEWELA. I was going through some banks in Nigeria, about ten banks, including major banks, the CEOs are women. You can testify to that…That’s why we must encourage women wherever we see them,” Apostle Okwuonu emphasized.
