The Nigerian Immigration Service(NIS), Bayelsa State Command has reiterated its readiness to partner media stakeholders in addressing migration and sundry issues relating to border control and its safety.
The State’s Comptroller of the Service, FO Atteh, stated this when he received a delegation of the United Correspondents’ Chapel of the State’s Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), in his office on Tuesday.
He emphasized the Command’s role in the management of foreigners in the State, including those under the ECOWAS regional protocol, noting that the Service has not abdicated its task of monitoring and regulating migrants while also ensuring that they comply with relevant laws and regulations.
He said: “The ECOWAS protocol allows citizens of member states to travel, reside, and work within the sub-region, subject to meeting certain requirements. The command has divisional offices in all local governments which handle matters relating to foreigners”.
In his remarks, Chairman of the Chapel Comr. Ekaunkumo Amgbare said the essence of the delegation visit to the NIS was to seek synergy with the Command in a bid to promote awareness about the transformative reforms initiated by the Service.
He also thanked the duo of the Comptroller-General of the NIS, Kemi Nanna Nandap for the reforms carried out by the Service and the State’s Comptroller for his exemplary leadership in implementing the reforms in the State.
The Chairman restated the commitment of his Chapel in informing the public about the initiatives in the NIS, saying the visit also aims to foster public support for the Service, while also tasking the Command on symbiotic partnership in the future.
