Tochukwu Oluehi stands tall as one of Nigeria’s most experienced and consistent goalkeepers.
The 1.68 m shot-stopper began her club career with Bayelsa Queens (2006–2010) and moved to Sunshine Queens (2011–2013). Her talent soon took her international, with stints at Bobruichanka in Belarus, Medkila IL in Norway, and clubs in Spain, Israel, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia. Her most recent club was Eastern Flames in Saudi Arabia (2023–2024).
Oluehi’s international journey with the Super Falcons began in 2007. Though she initially served as a backup, she was part of World Cup squads in 2007, 2011, 2019, and 2023, as well as the 2008 and 2024 Olympics. Her dedication over the years made her the only member of the 2008 Olympic team still present in the 2024 Paris squad.
Her crowning moment came at the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON), where she played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s title win. Conceding just one goal throughout the tournament, Oluehi’s heroics in penalty shootouts—especially her decisive save against South Africa in the final—earned her the Best Goalkeeper award and a place in the CAF Team of the Tournament.
Renowned for her cool-headedness during high-pressure shootouts, Oluehi earned the nickname “Nigeria’s penalty-saving queen.” Her leadership, vast experience, and consistency have made her a vital figure in Nigerian women’s football.
In Paris 2024, she brought depth and mentorship to the Super Falcons, backing up rising star Chiamaka Nnadozie. Though she didn’t feature in any matches, her presence reinforced the team’s blend of youth and experience.
After leaving Eastern Flames, Oluehi’s next chapter is yet to be written. But with nearly two decades at the top level, her legacy as one of Nigeria’s finest goalkeepers is secure. Her story is one of resilience, excellence, and unwavering national pride.
