The South-South zonal Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Barr. George Turnah, has called on the Solomon Agwanana led faction of the Bayelsa State Working Committee to brace for an unavoidable transformation within the Party.
He made this call in a statement made available to newsmen by his Media aide, Pst. Kelvin Loveday-Egbo on Thursday in Yenagoa, the State capital in reply to an earlier Press statement which circulated on the social media credited to the state Party Chairman which allegedly accused him of factionalizing and creating divisions within the state’s Party structure.
Turnah averred that Agwanana’s time was up, emphasizing that change was inevitable, while also expressing concern over the Party’s alleged decline.
He noted that due to the Chairman’s poor leadership acumen there was an urgent need to rescue the party from potential collapse.
“As leaders of this Party, we must save it from Agwanana’s incompetence and ineffective leadership, which lack fundamental knowledge and skills in Party management.
“The Party has been losing loyal and committed members to the opposition due to the current leadership failure on the part of Agwanana.
“If Solomon Agwanana understands the level of dissatisfaction among Party members, he would see that he and his allies have become mere shadows of their former selves,” Turnah said.
The Party’s zonal Scribe denied any intention to foster division in the Party, accusing the State Chairman’s group of promoting factionalism, just as he noted that recently the Chairman directed the formation and inauguration of a factional Ward executive in Ogbia Ward nine.
He also called on the State Governor, Senator Douye Diri to be cautious of Agwanana’s deceptive strategies, warning that the Party’s identity is fast eroding under his failed leadership at the State Executive Committee.
“Change is here, and it is inevitable. The turnout of SEC members at the last meeting was a disappointment. It was a clear evidence of widespread distrust and dissatisfaction within the party.
“Hiring of entertainers during the last SEC meeting was a mere superficial fix. I’m afraid Governor Diri was being misled daily by figures like Agwanana and his cohorts who constantly create the illusion that everything is running smoothly while they continue to milk the State’s treasury dry under the guise of fighting imaginary enemies of the Governor in the Party.
“It may be too late to listen when the head is already severed. There’s need for urgent action before the situation deteriorates further.
“I like to urge our party members to be united and work towards restoring the integrity and purpose of the PDP. There’s need for authentic leadership that truly represents the interests of the people.
“I also want to call on leaders of the party in the state and beyond to recognize the critical moment they’re in and push for a new direction that prioritizes accountability and effective governance. JOY IS COMING”, the zonal Secretary added.
