YAFC hosts two-day seminar on peace building for children in Agboyi-Ketu, Lagos

As part of the activities marking toward deepening peace and social cohesion, Youth Advocate for Change (YAFC) holds a two-day seminar for children and youth on cultivating the culture of peace in Agboyi-Ketu, Lagos.
This seminar is in commemoration of the United Nations International Day of Peace (IDP) coming up on the 27th and 28th, September 2024. It will be holding at Christ Arrival School, Agboyi I, Agboyi-Ketu, Lagos.

In a statement issued by The Team Lead, YAFC, Adeola Ogunlade said that the International Day of Peace is a day set aside by the United Nation dedicated to fortifying the principles of peace, highlighted by 24 hours of non-aggression and ceasefire.

“Peace Day provides a powerful and inspiring opportunity to engage children and youths in diverse activities related to peace, unity and making a positive difference in their world. Meaningful involvement can help set a tone of respect and unity from the beginning of the academic year”, Ogunlade said.

He noted that the participating students will be encouraged and inspired to explore various creative ways to take part in Peace Day, contributing to building a culture of peace in their schools and communities.

“Activities will include discussions, painting, writing, singing, reading, and other forms of expression to explore the concept of peace in its many facets. The children will make their presentations around the various activities and the painting created by the children around sustaining peace within the community will be pasted in a public space approved by the community with their full participation and engagement”, he said.

Ogunlade further said that we have over the year’s committed toward inclusive education and sustainable livelihood for all. Over 75 children between the ages of 7 to 15 years from different schools within the community will be participating in the event.
