Bayelsa state Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Barr. Perepuighe Biewari has said the state government would ensure legal and adequate land administration processes in the state.
He made the promise during a recent courtesy call on him by the United Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ), Bayelsa State Council.
Biewari reiterated that where necessary, government would pay adequate compensation for any land it acquires from their original owners.
The Lands Commissioner noted that recently the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) was allotted land for the building of their zonal headquarters in the state by the state Government through the ministry.
He, however averred that though the land has been allocated to NDLEA, proper documentation would be done before a certificate of occupancy (C/O) is issued to the agency to avoid future legal challenges.
According to the Commissioner, the importance of the anti-narcotic agency in the state can not be overemphasized as the land when fully released to them would spur men and officers of the agency to discharge their duties adequately in the state when a befitting office complex is built.
He said: “A befitting office complex for the agency would ultimately lead to curbing abuse and intake of illicit drugs amongst the youths and other vulnerable groups.
“Other federal parastatals have also requested for the acquisition of land for thier office complex in the state. The Ministry of Lands and Survey is working out all the necessary modalities in line with stipulated guidelines for the completion of the documents before handing over the land to these parastatals officially.
“This Ministry has interest for a partnership with the media for proper dissemination of information concerning our activities”.
