The Nigerian military has dismissed allegations circulating in a viral video, denouncing such as malicious and baseless.
In an official statement released by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Acting Director of Defence Information, the military refuted claims made by Reverend Timothy Daluk, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Mangu Chapter.
According to the statement, the video accused the military of bias and partiality towards a specific group in addressing security challenges in the Mangu area. The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) clarified that these accusations lack substance and are aimed at tarnishing the image of military personnel.
The statement highlighted a recent security breach in the Mangu municipal area on January 23, 2024, prompting the Plateau State Government to declare a 24-hour curfew. Troops from Operation SAFE HAVEN were deployed to enforce the curfew and restore order, resulting in the arrest of criminals involved in looting and property destruction.
Expressing dismay over the allegations made by a religious leader, the military reiterated its commitment to neutrality and professionalism in fulfilling its constitutional mandate of safeguarding citizens’ lives and property.
