Disturbed by the growing insecurity and attacks in Mangu local government area and the desperate need to check further escalation, the military have stepped up strategies to arrest grazing by nomads in unauthorized area by arresting over 1000 cattle and sheep.
This is part of an ongoing efforts to address security concerns in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State by troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH).
The over 1000 cattle and a large number of sheep grazing on farmlands belonging to locals at Dumunan village in Bwai district of Mangu LGA were arrested on Wednesday, 18th July, 2023.
According to the Media Information Officer, Operation Safe Haven, Captain Oya James, said that preliminary investigation revealed that the cattle and sheep came from Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas respectively, and are currently in their custody for necessary action.
It would be recalled that the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN, Major General AE Abubakar had promised to seriously tackle the root causes of the crisis and block anything that could lead to renewed attacks in Mangu general area.
