Wages Of Senseless Killing: Inspector of Police Dismissed, Charged To Court

An Inspector of Police, identified as Ubi Ebri, has been summarily dismissed from the force and charged to court for killing a medical doctor, Onyeka Ibe, in Delta state.

Ebri, who was till his prosecution, attached to Area Command patrol team, was on “Stop and Search” duty along Ugbolu-Illah road when the incident happened on the 5th April, 2023.

In a statement by the Delta state Command spokesperson, DSP Edafe Bright on Wednesday said based on the promise of the command to intimate members of the public of their findings, it was axiomatic to inform them that Inspector Ebri has been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force after the conclusion of the orderly room trial at the State Headquarters.

Part of the statement read, “The dismissed Inspector was today, 19th April, 2023, arraigned before Asaba Magistrate Court on a remand proceedings for the murder of Onyeka Ibe.

“The court ordered that the suspect be remanded at the Ogwashi uku Correctional Centre while the case file be sent to Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice and prosecution of the suspect by the office of the DPP.

As a result, the Command has tasked officers and men to uphold the tenets of professional policing in the discharge of their duties with respect to fundamental human rights of all citizens in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), while hoping that this will serve as a deterrent to others officers.
