Barely 426 days after a high-rise block of luxury flats under construction at Ikoyi, Lagos collapsed killing 42 people including the owner of the building, another similar disaster today happened on 1st Avenue, Banana Island, Ikoyi Lagos.
The latest disaster is a seven storey building located on 1st Avenue, Banana Island.
While the cause of the collapse is unclear, work was said to be ongoing on the sixth floor.
According to the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA), construction workers were trapped in the building while officials of the agency mobilised rescue team immediately after the sad news broke.
An earlier report stated that the building collapsed around 3pm Wednesday when some construction workers had closed for the day.
Lagos State Fire Service and Rescue Service confirmed the incident through its spokesman, Amodu Shakiri.
“We got a call around 5:58pm. We are currently trying to ascertain the claim that no one was under the rubble,” he said.
