Nine Killed As Container Falls On Commercial Bus In Lagos

It was a bloody Sunday, 29th January, 2023 as a latched containerized truck rolled backward and fell on a commercial bus killing nine passengers, one female adult was rescued alive while two were injured.

The incident which took place at Costain-Ojueleba bridge about 1345hrs involved two vehicles with Registration number: KJA 380 XD, a MACK (40ft container) with white colour and KTU 921 YD, a Suzuki (mini bus) with passengers.

According to Federal Road Safety Corp’s Route Commander, Public Education Officer Olabisi Sonusi explained that 13 people were involved in the accident, comprising nine male and four female.

Among the nine killed, five were male adults, one male child, two female adults and one female child.

Route Commander Sonusi explained that the cause of the crash was orchestrated as the truck rolled back before falling on the commercial vehicle.

At the moment, it was learnt that personnel of FRSC have cordoned off the bridge while a cranes has succeeded at lifting the container off the bus.

Also, the dead have been evacuated and the remains of the dead taken to the morgue. Meanwhile, the driver of the  truck has been arrested and taken into custody at Area C Police Command, Lagos along side the wrecked bus.

Meanwhile, traffic flow has return to the busy road.
