No fewer than 19 persons were rescued by the Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos Sector Command on Thursday afternoon when a 40-feet container fell on four vehicles leading to the death of one passenger.
The accident took place at the Cele Under bridge inward Mile 2 section of the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway.
However, the Sector Commander FRSC Lagos Sector Command, Corps Commander Olusegun Ogungbemide, said the preliminary information shows that the truck driver lost control due to excessive speed before ramming into the other vehicles.
FRSC Public Education Officer, Route Commander Olabisi Sonusi, in a statement said that the FRSC team arrived the scene of the mutiple crash at 1215 hours on Thursday 22nd December, 2022.
She further explained that the crash involved four vehicles with 20 persons involved (18 male and two female). The vehicles involved included a Fanagon Bus, yellow colour with registration number AKD 489 XZ, Toyota Highlander Black AGL 366 FP, Toyota RAV4 AAA 353 FH, and a MACK Truck with registration number: KTU 43 XW.
It was learnt that one injured male pssenger was rescued and taken to the hospital while another male initially trapped underneath the containerized truck was recovered and the corpse handed over to the family.
The area is presently cordoned off for full recovery of the truck while FRSC team and other agencies such LASEMA, Nigeria Police, LASTMA are on ground managing the situation.
Meanwhile, Corps Commander Olusegun Ogungbemide, has directed that full crash investigation to determine the remote cause of the incident.
He, therefore, warned all truck owners to ensure that their vehicles are checked and maintained to avoid any future occurrence even as he commensurated with the family of the deceased and wished the injured quick recovery.
