The Leadership of the Bayelsa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has empathized with its members and the people of Bayelsa State who were directly or indirectly impacted by the ravaging floods in the state.
A statement released by the Council Chairman, Comrade Samuel Numonengi and Secretary, Comrade Ogio Ipigansi made available to National Wire described the flood situation in the state as worrisome, considering the level of devastation it has caused to livelihood including properties and farm lands.
The statement noted that with critical infrastructure such as hospitals, roads, bridges and schools severely affected is a pointer that the state is in a disastrous situation.
This was just as the NUJ in its statement however also applauded the state government on measures taken to ameliorate the sufferings of the people, urging the state Task Force on Flood Mitigation and Management to ensure that adequate relief materials gets to the actual victims of the flood.
The statement from the leadership of the state’s Fourth Estate of the Realms also thanked the President and Commander- in- Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mohammadu Buhari for his directive to relevant Federal agencies to come to assist the state and called on the Federal agencies to without delay make their presence felt in the state, saying the worrisome floods have caused severe economic hardship as food, medical provisions and energy are in short supply.
The NUJ in its statement has further called on multinational, international donor agencies and people of good will to come to the aid of the people in the state, noting that these are trying times for the people of the state as everyone is directly or indirectly impacted by the situation.
National Wire reports that the leadership of Journalists in the state in its statement urged the people to show love and support to each other, just as it has continued to console those who loss their loved ones to the floods described as the worst in decades.
