The Bayelsa State Office of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has commenced the distribution of essential drugs and equipments to select primary health centres (PHCs) across the eight council areas of the state.

A statement issued by Mr Pereokosifa Biseni, the Press Secretary to the Senior Special Assistant to the state Governor and focal Person on SDGs, Dr. Ebiwari Wariowei said the gesture was sanctioned by the state governor, Senator Douye Diri as part of effort to boost the health and wellbeing of citizens.

Wariowei said the health intervention, coming after a three-day medical outreach organised in the state’s three Senatorial districts is in line with goal three of the SDGs which is Heath and Wellbeing.

The Governor’s aide equally thanked Governor Diri for his commitment towards the attainment of the 17 SDGs, through quick release of funds to carry out interventions in various sectors.

National Wire which monitored the event reports that the SDGs office gesture was greeted with excitement by residents of the benefitting Communities of Famgbe, Yenezue-gene and Tombia Communities in the Yenagoa Council area as well as Twon-Brass, headquarters of the Brass council area as well as Igweama Communitiy, also of the Brass Council area.

The beneficiaries poured encomiums on Governor Diri and his Prosperity Government for embarking on the laudable programme, saying government has shown that it prioritises the health of citizens of the state, just as they called for the sustenance of the kind gesture.

This was even as Medical staff at the benefitting primary health centers had also lauded the Governor and the Governor’s aide for providing the drugs and equipments, noting that it is coming at the right time and assured that it would be used for the health benefit of all patients.
