Nigerian Army Collaborates With Customs To Combat Security Challenges

 

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division Nigerian Army (NA) Major General Umar Musa has pledged to sustain collaboration between the NA and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Ogun 1 Area Command in combating security challenges within the Owode-Idiroko Border general area.

Major General Umar Musa gave the assurance to Comptroller Bamidele Makinde Customs Area Comptroller Ogun 1 Area Command during a courtesy visit to the Customs area Command.

According to the GOC , the courtesy visit was in furtherance of the synergy and collaboration between the NA and NCS in ensuring that the South Western flank of the Nigeria Border are well secured.

The GOC noted that the two Sister Services roles are interwoven, hence the need to sustain synergy and collaboration to close gaps that may arise from time to time between the sister Services.

in his remarks the Comptroller Makinde lauded the existing synergy and collaboration between the Services and reiterated on commitment and readiness of the Customs Command to partner the NA in combating crimes and criminalities towards ensuring that that Owode-Idiroko Border area well policed. He further assured the GOC that all areas of cooperation would be fully utilised.

Some of the highlights of the visit included the assessment of the border between Nigeria and Benin Republic, inspection of quarter guard by the GOC mounted by men of the Customs Area 1 Command and exchange of souvenirs by the GOC and the Comptroller.

In another development the GOC charged officers and soldiers of 174 Battalion as well as other troops undergoing training at the 81 Division Training School (DTS) to uphold total discipline and commitment in the course of their training at the school. The GOC gave the charge while carrying out an assessment visit at the DTS as part of his familiarization visit to the school.

Major General Musa said the assessment visit would afford him the opportunity to determine the state of readiness of the school as well as physically see how troops undergoing training facilitated by the British Military Assistance Training Team (BMATT) are faring in order to bring improvement within available resources.

He further assured the troops that the Chief of Army Staff would continue to improve efforts that will make troops function optimally
