… activity geared to make teaching, learning, conducive – FOC

The Nigerian Navy (NN) along with the United States Navy, as part of its Cooperate Social Responsibility (CSR) embarked on a community development exercise aimed at sustaining the existing cordial relationship between the two countries.
The exercise is aimed at strengthening maritime security around the gulf of guinea.
The visit and the community exercise according to the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Johnson Gbassa, said that the Command commenced the renovation works in the school in line with the Chief of the Naval Staff strategic directive 2021.
In his remarks at the school premises, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Johnson Gbassa, who was a represented by the Command Project Officer, Captain Olumide Faleye observed that, “this school that we are, is the second school that would be benefitting from such intervention this year by the command.
“Based on your request from your ship and the United States consulate that the ship wishes to join Western Naval Command, this is our little efforts to provide corporate social responsibility in our area of responsibility.”
Gbassa further reiterated that the community services being carried out by the officers and men of the visiting United States ship would also require us to engage in physical sweeping while some will be painting in what we generally know as cliching.
“Based on this, we would have two teams. We are going to divide ourselves into two teams. While the first group will be 12 in number for painting; the second group will be 10 for sweeping of leaves and park refuse into the dust bin for about thirty minutes.
“If we still have more time, the two groups can swipe. All these activities that the Western Naval Command has embarked on is geared towards making learning and teaching more conducive,” he said.
Also speaking, the Education Secretary, Ajeronmi Ifelodun Local government Secretary Committee, Mr. Abiola Olanipekun, thanked the Nigerian Navy’s team and US ship for the laudable community programme by giving the school a facelift and befitting renovation of the classrooms.
“Let me use this opportunity to say a big thank you to the Nigerian Navy for their community service in SUPEB Model Nursery and Primary School in Olodi Apapa area of the state,” he reiterated.
It would be recalled that the United States Ship Hershel “Woody” Williams berthed on Saturday in Lagos for a three-day at sea training exercise.

Hershel “Woody” Williams is participating in a three-day at sea training exercise with Nigerian offshore patrol vessels and members of Ghana’s Special Boat Squadron (SBS). Over the last decade, Gulf of Guinea nations have steadily increased their capability of working together and sharing information.
