How Delta Police Command Recovers Weapons Hidden In Bag Of Rice

It was a huge victory over the activities of criminal elements along Ughelli-Port Harcourt Road on Friday as the Delta State Police Command intercepted a Mazda 626 Saloon car, dark green in colour with Reg. No. UGH 722 AA and recovered dangerous weapons hidden in a bag of rice.

The recovery which took place on the 11th June, 2021 about 1630hrs was made possible when a police Eagle-net special squad on a routine patrol/stop and search asked the six occupants consisting of two males and four females to come down from the vehicle for searching.

In the process, a sack containing rice belonging to a man whose name is not yet known but among the occupants jumped into a nearby stream and ran away.

However, a hot chase given him ensued proved abortive as he escaped into the forest. The rice bag was identified by other passengers to be his own.

When it was opened, 138 rounds of AK47 live ammunitions, one AK47 magazine, one Baretta pistol magazine and a knife were recovered.

Meanwhile, preliminary investigation revealed that the occupants are all passengers that boarded the cab from Eleyele Port Harcourt heading to Ughelli but is ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect.

In another development, a clash of some cult groups in Ogwashi-uku has led to the arrest of three suspect on the 6th June, 2021.

The Commander State Anti-Cult Unit acting on a credible intelligence revealed that another cult group would be converging somewhere in Ogwashi-uku on the 7th June, 2021 about 2300hrs, SACU raided their hideout at Ogwashi-Uku in Aniocha South LGA OF Delta State where one Collins Okonji and eight other suspected cultists were arrested.

Exhibits recovered from them include: one English Pump action gun, one double barrel cut to size gun, one battle axe and two live cartridges.

The same day about 2305hrs, acting one tip off that three armed men were at old Ekete road robbing passersby, the Divisional Police Officer, Ovwian Aladja Division, swiftly mobilized and led patrol teams to the scene on sighting the patrol vehicle one unidentified among them was gun down in process of exchange of firing while the remaining two escaped.

One locally made pistol with two cartridges were recovered. Effort is on to arrest the fleeing gang members is ongoing.

The Commissioner of Police has mandated officers and men of the command, Tactical Command, DPOs to not only maintain this tempo but to also ensure that it is sustained, so that criminals will with shun Delta state or be taught a bitter lesson.
