The Registrar/ Chief Executive Officer, National Examination Council, Professor Godswill Obioma , has assured of strictly adhering to COVID- 19 protocols for a hitch free conduct of its examinations , as the Council announces the commencement of its internal SSCE on Wednesday 5th October, rounding up on November 18, 2020.
He stated this on Tuesday during a Media briefing at the Board room of the Council’s Headquarters in Minna, Niger state capital, just as he reiterated the commitment of his administration in ensuring smooth conduct of the exams, his first major assignment at the organization, as the helmsman.
Prof. Obioma ,who said registration for the internal exams is still ongoing till 10th September, 2020, noted there will be no extension, there after.
He also reeled out the special measures adopted towards successful conduct, in line with the mission to deliver examinations which results are trusted, worldwide for their credibility,and measures that would ensure appropriate standards and excellence, before, during and after the examinations.
According to him, some of the measures include; daily distribution of sensitive examination materials, biometric capturing of candidates, customised answer booklets for essay component of the exams and deployment of security agents to examination centres across the country among others.
In addition, he said, ” all our examination officials are now mandatorily required to sign an oath of allegiance at the Legal Unit of the Council, while the Head, Quality Assurance of the National Examination body and his team , will also embark on training for the affected NECO exams officials/ invigilators, as requirement to participate in their respective roles and responsibilities “.
The Registrar thereby advised students and pupils participating in all it’s exams to study hard and avoid the temptation of wanting to cheat during the exams, saying, “the Council has zero tolerance for exam malpractices”.
Prof. Obioma disclosed that NECO will look at the possibility to install CCTV cameras in all its examination centres and custodian point.
The NECO boss implored governments, schools,parents/ guardians and candidates to take special note of the schedules and try as much as possible to cooperate with NECO in order to ensure seamless conduct of the examinations.
