Two police officers identified as ASP Tijani Olatunji and Inspector Gboyega Oyeniyi and a civilian have been arrested for their role in the dehumanization of a young girl in Ibadan.

Confirming their arrest in Abuja on Thursday, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Frank Mba said that preliminary investigations revealed that the policemen are attached to Area ‘A’ Command, Lion Building, Lagos, but were on legitimate investigation activities to Ibadan, Oyo State where the incident took place.

Describing their attitude as “discreditable conduct and incivility to a member of the public,” Mba reiterated that “following investigations into the dehumanizing treatment of a female citizen as shown in a viral video on Wednesday, 22nd July, 2020, the Nigeria Police Force have identified three police officers and one civilian accomplice who participated in the unprofessional act.”

He added that the identified and arrested officer are currently being detained at the Lagos State CID detention facility, Panti, Yaba.

ACP Mba, however, added that effort is being intensified to arrest the two other accomplices while appropriate disciplinary procedure would be initiated as soon as investigations are concluded.

The young girl was shown on a viral video and in handcuffs being brutalised by the police as they took turn to ask her questions about her sexuality and what she knew about the man purportedly arrested for robbery and kidnapping.
