Cattle farmers in Bayelsa state under the aegis of Cattle rearers and dealers association have called on the Bayelsa state Government to support them in making their businesses worthwhile.
Speaking with Journalusts at the weekend in Yenagoa the Secretary of the association, Alhaji Ali Mai Wada maintained that upon doing their bits in terms of providing the people of the state with consistent meat supply, they are also a major source of revenue generation for the Government,decrying that the association has not received commensurate benefit from the state Government.
The cattle dealers scribe alleged that the Government has negated on its promises,saying that the absence of security post around the Bayelsa palm allocated them for business by the Government is the bane of the expected development of their businesses.
Mai Wada noted that more often than known members of the association have been attacked and money as well as other of their belongings carted away by robbers.
He tasked the Government to fulfil pledges made to them before and after their present location was allocated them so as to boost their morale, just as he emphasised that by so doing more dealers will flock the state and give chances of increase in Government’s revenue.
He said,these cattle you see here are not just like other animals.They need a good environment where they can atimes lie down and stand erect. But look at this place,it’s in a deplorable condition”.
He added, “due to absence of a police post and other security operatives stationed here we’ve had series of robbery attacks where monies and properties of our members were stolen”.
Meanwhile Mai Wada has also commended the Bayelsa state Government on the fight against Covid-19,saying as a result of the Government Covid-19 taskforce sensitization,cattle dealers and rearers in the state are now adhering strictly to the containment regulations, just as he pleaded that they be equally carried along in other dealings regarding the pandemic.
