MOPOL 22 Sergeant Test Positive To Covid-19

A police Sergeant identified as Sgt Sanni Tobi Francis attached to Mopol 22, Lagos State Police Command has tested positive to Covid-19 after submitting his blood sample.

The Non- Commissioned officer according to a Police Situation Report revealed that the officer submitted his blood sample in Lagos last week but didn’t wait for the result before travelling to Akure last Wednesday.

As a result of the growing cases of Covid-19 in both MOPOL 20 and 22 of the Lagos State Police Command and at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumodu has warned police officers under his command not to be seen clustering together in large number to minimize spread.

It was learnt that he has also mandated the police command gate to be shut while strict screening/monitoring be carried out by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations and to ensure that the police cell is minimally decongested.

Unfortunately, police sitrep indicated that when Sgt Francis result came out, it was positive. While in Akure, Ondo State, he was said to have stayed with one of his colleagues, Sgt Afolabi Saka, who is also attached to Mopol 22.

However, due to the swift reaction of the Commissioner for Health, who is also the Chairman Ondo State Interministerial Committee on Covid-19, mobilised the evacuation of the police to IDH isolation centre.

Police signal also revealed that another Sergeant who had come in contact with the index case, Sgt Adekunle Olomolatan attached to Special Protection Unit (SPU), was said to have travelled to Abuja.

In order to curtain the spread, the Commanders of both unit and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, have identified the officers, intercepted and quarantined them for testing to confirm their Covid-19 status in order to prevent the spread to other officers and men.

However, it was gathered that the Ondo State Police Command has activated strategy to closely monitor the officers in isolation and give progress report about their status.

In similar vein, the Ogun state police Command has said that they are vigorously sensitizing officers and men with a view to checking exponential increase in spread.

The spokesperson, Ogun state police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police Abimbola in a telephone conversation said the state Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson has provided both logistics and materials for the officers.

“All necessary steps are been taken in all the police stations. There are sanitizers. We have asked policemen to have facemask. The Commissioner has provided us with sanitizers, Izal, hand towels. Right now, we do not detain anybody except on a very serious matter,” DSP Abimbola reiterated.

It would be recalled that earlier in the week, a Deputy Commissioner of Police in Edo State had died of complication from the coronavirus.

DCP Francis Adie Bissong, the DC State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Benin, passed away on Tuesday, 21 April. Until his death, he was the DCP in charge of Zonal Criminal Investigations Department, Zone 5 Benin City.,
